Ads.txt management

Ads.txt implementation

Overview

What is Ads.txt?

Ads.txt is a simple, flexible and secure method for advertisers to declare who is authorised to sell their inventory. It’s an IAB initiative that helps prevent counterfeit inventory and improve transparency in the programmatic advertising ecosystem. Ads.txt file is a plain-text file that is placed on the publisher’s website, and is easily accessible for ad exchanges, supply-side platforms, and other third-party companies to access and verify.

What problem does Ads.txt solve?

Ads.txt helps ensure advertisers they are buying ads from legitimate networks and publishers. It provides a list of authorised digital sellers of inventory, which helps buyers avoid fraud and invalid traffic. Ads.txt also helps buyers to make sure that their ads are reaching their intended audience, as opposed to being redirected to a low-value website or app. In addition, Ads.txt helps buyers to reduce the risk of buying counterfeit inventory, as any unauthorised resellers or brokers are flagged and discarded.

Dynamic Ads.txt in VeraViews

VeraViews enables publishers to automatically and dynamically update their Ads.txt, to ensure they are only accessing the best quality of adverts available to them.

Automated Setup

Veraviews provide the hosting and automation of Ads.txt file management for every publisher’s website. An Ads.txt file is generated automatically with the complete pre-set of the entries required by the IAB. Publishers can redirect the Ads.txt requests from their website to the file generated and supported by veraviews as well as manage the content at veraviews.com account at any time.

A redirect automatically makes a browser go from one URL to another URL. A redirect can point to any other URL — it doesn't need to point to the same website.

Step 1: Ads.txt redirect

  1. Open the ‘Set Up VeraViews’ page and click the ‘Ads.txt tab’,
  2. Click the websites drop-down list to pick the website for Ads.txt configuration,
  3. Copy the updated Ads.txt url to use for the website redirect,
  4. Pass the url to the website admin/developer.

Step 2: Automated Ads.txt management

Important: Make sure you’ve provided the Ads.txt website redirect using the VeraViews hosting URL.

  1. Review the pre-set list of ad providers for the Ads.txt file content
  2. Add the custom entries via clicking the button ‘Add custom content’

Note: Custom content added will be highlighted and can be edited or removed via the ‘Delete custom content’ button.

Important: The pre-set content can not be deleted or edited. In the case you have any questions to the pre-set Ads.txt content feel free to get in touch with the veraviews support team at support@veraviews.com
